Sri Shankaranarayana Temple

Haleyur village is about 20kms from Sirsi town and 2kms from Sonda. Sri Shankaranarayana Temple is a Dwikutachala temple with two garbhagrihas. The Shankara Temple belongs to 12th century AD the later Chalukyan, where as the Narayana Temple belongs to 14th century AD. Both common sabhamantapa merged together. The central bay of the sabhamantapa in front of the Shankara temple is decorated with Bhuvaneshwari. In fact the added portion, that is the narayana temple merges beautifully with the earlier one and gives an impression that it is single temple with 2 garbhagrihas. During the restoration work all the stone members were dismantled and re-constructed after strengthening the Adhistana. The restoration of the temple took up during 2002-03. After the restoration work, daily pooja is being performed in this temple.
